Such a good analysis of this twisty subject! And thank you for the citation; I am always surprised to be reminded what’s in that book 🤣

The steak v. Cottage cheese analogy is really on point. The other thing that I’ve always wondered about power nuances in food, is food pricing. Great food for thought here.

I don't know how I missed this but this was a delight to read and very timely! I got caught up in the protein vortex last year when I started strength training and got really into the gym. While at first it was refreshing to focus on a way of eating that focused on adding more of something, I became disillusioned when I realized it was still a diet and for me constricting. I'd find myself choosing between yogurt over a piece of fruit to meet my "protein goals". Then some months later I thought about how every decade there's some food trend like you mentioned, it gave me perspective and I wanted to restore balance again. I too am in a place of remembering to enjoy food for the joy and not always thinking of food as fuel. Plus, I always think about the diets of people who live the longest in the world in the blue zones and they are NOT eating 300 grams of protein a day haha

Excellent article. I do find myself worrying about protein and whether I get enough, eating meat only a couple of times a week. It is extraordinary the conflicting advice out there. I think I should just stop worrying!

This has given me a lot to think about! Also is a good rebuttal to my well meaning loved ones who are concerned with my protein intake
